Heading for Independence?

How long will it be before Barnaby Joyce quits the coalition to become an independent senator?

The pressure on him must be immense, and it's hard to see such a free thinker maverick surviving for long in the party of red-necks.

I think a few people have been fooled regarding Barnaby Joyce, seeing him as a man from a small Queensland town but he's got more 'background' than most realise

Quote from ABC Background Briefing

To many people, Barnaby Joyce appears a quintessential Queensland politician, but he's not quite what he seems. He's not from a farming background, his father and grandfather were both soldiers. And he's not even a Queenslander. In the local parlance, he's a southerner. Born in Tamworth and educated in Sydney (school) and Armidale (Uni), he only moved to the north a decade go.

Asked why he moved to St George

Because it was a cotton town. Cotton towns are always prosperous. There's about $300-million worth of produce that comes out between here and Dirranbandi. If everybody in Australia produced per capita what this area produces, Australia would be the richest nation on earth by a factor of 10. Where there's irrigation there's prosperity, and you try to take your family to an area of prosperity.

And he's built up a very successful accountancy business by doing so. (Though the ethics of cotton and the fact that Cubbie Station contributed to has campaign are a bit of a worry.)

But I like the way he's refused to move from St Geroge and aims to keep in touch with normal mortals as much as possible. I cheered out loud when the news that he'd crossed the floor came in.

The PM must be spitting chips - muahahahah.

Oh rats - my efforts at HTML stuff didn't work - sorry!

I'll fix it, Sue. html tags are enclosed by 'less than' and 'greater than' symbols. (Above the comma and full stop keys)

Well, after the Coalition's whole attempt to pull one over the bush with the full sale of Telstra etc... I'd say any rural politician would be dumb as a monkey's arse to run as a National Party candidate. That Party has no future.

Australian Democracy or should we say Faifax,Packer Murdochcracy.Ever tried a letter to the editor, not having a name for yourself and having q contrary opinion, your chances of getting it published are zilch.
Globalisation and capitalistic "Royalty" emerging.
In the good old days the Royals were living in opulence while the common folk was slaving in atrocious condition, and now the filthy rich are doing the same while millions in the world are starving, and most of them are trying to justify their illgotten gains, even the Russian who bought Chelsea soccer club while the common russians were not even got paid. How long will it or can it last?
